
CHANDIGARH, May 24: Trials to select probables for the Chandigarh State junior hockey camp were held today at the Sector 42 Hockey Stadium. More than 30 players took part in the selection procedure, which lasted more than two hours.
According to a spokesman of the Chandigarh Hockey Association, the trials will also be held tomorrow at 4 p.m., at the same venue. After tomorrow8217;s trials, 30 probables will be selected for the camp, which will commence on May 26, at the Sector 42 Sports Complex.
Some of the outstanding players, who took part in the trials were Jaswinder Singh, Navdeep Singh, Inderjeet Singh and Willamjeet Singh.
Jaswinder Singh recently represented combined Indian Universities team in the international meet held at Germany.
While Navdeep Singh was one of the probables, who attended the Junior National camp. Inderjeet is also one of the probables for the junior national camp. The final team will tour South Africa.
Jitender Singh, Jitender Kumar and Manmohan Sing had also attended the Under-16 National camp.
Chandigarh team had won second position in the 95-96 edition of the Junior National meet. However, in the 96-97 edition held at Delhi, Chandigarh grabbed bronze. In the last edition, Chandigarh, however, lost in the initial stages of the meet.
Pune will hold the forthcoming Junior National meet which will commence from June 11 to 25.
