ROOPNAGAR, Dec 21: Akali Dal-A leader Simranjeet Singh Mann said that the fight between the Shiromani Akali Dal chief Parkash Singh Badal and Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee president Gurcharan Singh Tohra stems from their desire to wrest8217; the seat of the Chief Minister.

Adding that the fight was not issue based, he said, 8220;Whereas Tohra harbours a dream to become the Chief Minister, Badal is using all his strength to save the highest seat.8221;

Speaking to ENS today in the morning, Mann said that both the leaders are silent on real issues, such as Anandpur Sahib Resolution and river water dispute with Haryana. Mann, who is opposed to the traditional8217; Akali leadership said, 8220;The exhausted leaders are on their last leg.8221; Replying to a question he said, the fight was neither good nor bad for the Sikh Panth.

He, however, sought to clarify that his party 8211; Akali Dal Amritsar maintains an equi-distance from both the leaders. He further revealed that a meeting with Democratic Akali Dal chief Kuldeep Singh Wadala was being held at Goraya today to assess the situation arising out at the latest political crisis in Punjab.

Mann lamented that Badal was using all his energy to save the post of the Chief Ministership from Tohra for the sake of his son Sukhbir Singh Badal.

In the same breath, he criticised Tohra for stagnation8217; in the functioning of the SGPC. Himself, an SPGC member, Mann blamed Tohra and other functionaries for a 8220;weak missionary work8221; to eradicate apostasy among the Sikhs.

Without naming anyone, he said the SGPC members were still thriving on gurdwara funds, but admitted his failure to unseat 8220;golak chors8221; looters of gurdwara funds as was promised by him during the SGPC elections.
