A British newspaper said on Sunday that jailed millionaire author and ex-politician Jeffrey Archer had agreed to pay it pound;362,000 to settle a claim that goes back to a 14-year-old libel case.

A spokeswoman for the News of the World, one of two papers Archer had sued for libel over stories about a meeting with a prostitute in 1987, said he had now agreed to pay pound;362,000 back to the paper. She confirmed a statement by Tom Crone, News of the World8217;s legal manager, who said: 8216;8216;Archer has repaid us the money we are entitled to from a settlement going back more than 14 years.8217;8217;

The Sunday Telegraph also said Archer, who failed last month to win the right to appeal against his conviction for perjury and perverting the course of justice, is about to settle a pound;2.8 million repayment to the Daily Star. 8212; Reuters
