Leon, June 14: Viswanathan Anand continued from where he left on Saturday to humble FIDE World champion Anatoly Karpov 5-1 in the Advanced Chess Match8217; with the aid of computers which concluded here on Sunday. Karpov, who required to win both the games today to stay in the match was never in the reckoning. In today8217;s first encounter, Anand slowly piled up the pressure from the Queen8217;s Indian defence as Karpov succumbed after 46 moves to lose the match.
With Anand having already taken the match, the last game was inconsequential, but Anand was in no mood to relinquish this opportunity. The sixth game was a repeat of the fourth game with Anand again winning a pawn. Karpov in a slightly inferior rook endgame lost on time after 56 moves.
