Who is Erica Robin, the first-ever Miss Universe Pakistan 2023?

Following her historic win, Robin said, “I am honoured and humbled to be the first ever Miss Universe Pakistan and I want to highlight the beauty of Pakistan. We have a beautiful culture that the media is not talking about, Pakistani people are very generous, kind and hospitable. On top of that, I would like to invite everyone to visit my country and try the most sumptuous Pakistani cuisines and explore our enchanting nature, our snow-capped mountains, our greeneries, and our progressive landscapes.”

While her success was lauded was many, Robin was also on the receiving end of severe backlash following her victory.

Pakistan’s Caretaker Minister for Information and Broadcasting Murtaza Solangi tweeted that the government had not nominated anyone to represent Pakistan at the Miss Universe pageant. “The government and the state of Pakistan are represented by the state and government institutions. Our government has not nominated any non-state or non-governmental person or institution for any such activity, nor can any such person or institution represent the state or government. Period,” he tweeted.

On September 14, 1999, Robin was born into a Christian family in Karachi, Pakistan. She completed her schooling at St Patrick’s Girls High School and pursued further education at the Government College of Commerce and Business Administration in Chandigarh, mentioned a report on dailypakistan.com.pk.

The report also mentioned that she commenced her professional modelling career in January 2020 and made her debut appearance in the July 2020 issue of DIVA Magazine Pakistan. Subsequently, she went on to be a part of various shoots and fashion shows of multiple Pakistani fashion brands.

In an interview with Voice of America, she said that she is under a lot of pressure and has a lot of responsibility as Pakistan will have a participant in the Miss Universe contest for the first time. “However, I won’t do anything that would harm the reputation of the country,” she said.
