Director Sanal Kumar Sasidharan faces police heat after prominent actor files complaint for insulting woman’s modesty
For years, Sanal Kumar Sasidharan has maintained that the actor’s life was in danger and that certain people were preventing him from meeting or communicating with her.

Malayalam filmmaker Sanal Kumar Sasidharan has landed in trouble once again after being booked based on a complaint filed by a prominent female actor for harassment. The case has been registered at the Elamakkara police station for sharing multiple posts on social media tagging the actor and releasing audio messages allegedly claiming they were hers. The director himself took to social media on Monday to confirm that he had been booked.
For years, Sanal has maintained that the actor’s life was in danger and that certain people were preventing him from meeting or communicating with her. In 2022, he faced legal action and detention following a complaint by the same actor, who accused him of repeatedly “insulting and threatening” her on social media by stating that her “life was in danger.”
In his latest social media post, Sanal commented on the previous case, saying, “The false case filed against me in your name three years ago has not yet been investigated. Neither has your statement been recorded nor has any evidence been produced.” He also mentioned that he had contacted her, along with her relatives and close friends, in advance, informing them that he was going public with his concerns regarding her life and safety.
Sanal added, “I shared all this with the general public, supported by the audio recording of our conversation, because I was not allowed to talk to you and was disturbed by the frightening living conditions you have described.” He further asserted that the new case had been registered to prevent the audio clip from gaining attention or becoming a topic of discussion.
“Anyway, this police case (against me) is to ensure that you don’t make a public statement or hold a press conference to reveal the truth of the matter to the public,” he noted. Reiterating that he wasn’t intimidated by the case, Sanal called on the media to investigate the truth of the matter. A few days ago, Sanal, known for helming movies such as Oraalppokkam, Ozhivudivasathe Kali, Sexy Durga and Chola, made headlines by releasing his 2020 film A’hr (Kayattam) for free on social media platforms.
In May last year, Sanal had found himself at the centre of another controversy when he released his film Vazhakku (The Quarrel) online without the permission of actor Tovino Thomas, who co-produced and starred in the film. Sanal accused Tovino of trying to obstruct the film’s release in theatres and OTT platforms, alleging that the actor was concerned about the potential damage to his career. Tovino denied these claims, clarifying that his decision to produce the film was based on his respect for Sanal’s work and that he had invested a substantial amount in the project without expecting any return.
