The Ernakulam District and Principal Sessions Court on Monday acquitted actor Dileep in the Kerala assault case after an eight-year investigation — and the reaction across India, especially from women, has been one of anger and disbelief. Social media quickly filled with criticism, and the strongest backlash came from within the Malayalam film industry itself, where several prominent female artistes openly questioned both the verdict and the Indian judicial system. Among the most vocal were actors Parvathy Thiruvothu, Ramya Nambeesan, and Rima Kallingal.
Parvathy Thiruvothu, known for her outspoken advocacy on social issues, reacted first with a bold “Avalkoppam (With her) forever” on Instagram. She followed it up with a sharper post that asked, “Justice what?” adding, “And now we watch a carefully crafted screenplay unfold so cruelly now.”

Ramya Nambeesan also made her stance clear, sharing an image of a woman holding a placard that read “Avalkoppam,” signaling her solidarity with the survivor and her dissatisfaction with the court’s decision.

Rima Kallingal echoed the sentiment, posting the same banner along with the caption: “Always. Stronger than ever, now.”
Playback singer Chinmayi Sripada took to X with a brief but unmistakably pointed response: “Wow. Just wow.”
The wave of criticism — from celebrities to thousands of social media users — has intensified pressure on the Kerala government. Many netizens echoed a common question: “If Dileep didn’t give the quotation, then who did?” Others highlighted the survivor’s trauma, asking, “What about the pain the girl endured mentally and physically?”
Responding to the mounting public outrage, Law Minister P. Rajeev announced that he had spoken to the Chief Minister and that the government has decided to appeal the verdict.
