Preity Zinta’s comeback film Ishkq In Paris is a wipe out at box office

Preity Zinta's Ishkq In Paris, directed by Prem Raj Soni turned out to be a dud.

Despite ITS exotic locales and Salman Khan’s item number,Preity Zinta’s comeback film,Ishkq In Paris, directed by Prem Raj Soni turned out to be a dud.

“The response to Ishkq In Paris at the Box Office (BO) was so bad that certain theatres withdrew some shows on the first day itself,” reveals trade analyst Amod Mehra. Surprisingly, most single screens stayed away from showcasing the film. One such theatre was G7 in Mumbai.

“Instead of making way for new releases,we decided to give good space to Shootout At Wadala and Aashiqui 2 since they were doing well over the last few weeks,” says Adil Sheikh,General Manager of G7. While it had no shows dedicated to Ishkq In Paris, only one show was given to the new release,Hum Hai Raahi Car Ke. Interestingly,Zinta’s film received a comparatively good response at multiplexes.

Says Girish Wankhede,General Manager Marketing and Public Relations for Cinemax India Ltd,“Considering Ishqk In Paris’ decent business at the Box Office in the opening weekend,we haven’t withdrawn any shows of the movie.” The film received an average occupancy of 25 per cent at Cinemax India on the first three days.

According to trade analyst Vinod Mirani, the movie managed to cross Rs 1 crore net in the opening weekend. However, the officials claimed that the movie grossed Rs 3.15 crore at the domestic box office.

Meanwhile, this week’s other release, the Adah Sharma-Dev Goel-starrer Hum Hai Raahi Car Ke was well publicised for Sanjay Dutt’s guest appearance. Unfortunately, that was not enough to save the movie at the Box Office. Instead of the two new Hindi releases, the Hollywood release,The Fast And The Furious 6,had cash registers ringing.

“The Fast… came across as a saving grace. It had an average occupancy of 60 per cent at pan India Cinemax multiplexes,” says Wankhede. The film also did well at single screens. With four shows daily, the film made Rs 2.4 lakh at G7 in its opening weekend.

With a dud Bollywood show last weekend, the multiplexes and single screens are now looking forward to Ranbir Kapoor-Deepika Padukone-starrer Yeh Jaawani Hai Deewani that has already generated tremendous hype.
