A third-year student of Panjab University attempted suicide inside a campus hostel late Thursday night, reportedly distressed over his academic performance and mounting exam pressure. The timely intervention of a student leader, who noticed the injured student losing consciousness, helped save his life.

Anurag Dalal, former President of PUCSC 2024, who lives in the adjacent room, spotted him bleeding and rushed him to the hospital. He was discharged after receiving treatment.

Police later arrived at the hospital, prepared the medico-legal report and recorded a DDR. No formal complaint has been filed so far.

According to Dalal, the student had been under stress for several weeks. With a CGPA of 6.1 and a poor performance in a recent MST, he had reportedly slipped into depression. Although a professor had spoken to him earlier, he was not forthcoming about his problems.
