Over 5,000 cops to be deployed in city for Mahaparinirvan Day

An official said that to ensure that the day is celebrated safely and smoothly, Mumbai Police has deployed at least three Additional Police Commissioners, eight Deputy Police Commissioners, 21 Assistant Police Commissioners, 492 police officers and 4,640 police personnel.

Over 5,000 Mumbai police personnel will be used to handle law and order in the city on Saturday, which marks the 69th Mahaparinirvan Day of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. Lakhs of people from across the state and country gather at Chaityabhoomi in Dadar to pay their respects at the holy stupa there.

An official said that to ensure that the day is celebrated safely and smoothly, Mumbai Police has deployed at least three Additional Police Commissioners, eight Deputy Police Commissioners, 21 Assistant Police Commissioners, 492 police officers and 4,640 police personnel. Tight police arrangements have been organised at important places, including SRPF platoons, Quick Response Team s(QRT), riot control teams, Delta, Combat, BDDS teams and Home Guards.

In addition to people from across the country, office bearers and activists of various political parties and organisations will also be present. An official said that they have appealed to citizens to cooperate with police by showing restraint in crowded places.

“If any unwanted items are found, they should inform the police immediately, all citizens should be aware of the rules and if needed, citizens should contact the police control room number 100/112,” the official added. Reporter: Mohamed Thaver
