A woman doctor died after a speeding four-wheeler knocked down her scooter at Erandwane on Sunday morning. The Kothrud police arrested the driver of the four-wheeler who is an an engineering student.
Police said victim Vaishali Vishwas Gund (45),a BAMS doctor,of Manode Society near Vitthal Mandir in Karve Nagar was on her way to her clinic.
Police said Gund was going towards Rajaram bridge via 100 feet road in Erandwane when Rahul Pradeep Dhores (21) car knocked her down from the rear side. The four-wheeler further went on to hit a motorcycle injuring its rider Jayant Nilkanth Talwar (41). Gund was rushed to Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. Talwar lodged a police complaint against Dhore. Police arrested Dhore,an engineering student at a city college,on charges of careless driving. He was,however,released on bail by the court.
Senior police inspector Chandrakant Ghodke said Gund was a skin specialist and was running a clinic in Karve Nagar. Police said her son is in the US and husband works with a private company in the city.
Meanwhile in another incident,driver of a speeding car lost control and knocked down a pedestrian,hit a car and then rammed into an ATM of Vishweshwar Bank near Manikbag Petrol Pump on Sinhagad Road around 7.15 am on Monday.
The Haveli police have booked the car driver Subhash Namdev Kumbhare of Wadgaon Budruk. Rohan Anant Chitare (22) of Ambegaon Khurd has lodged the police complaint in this case. According to the police,Kumbhare was driving his car towards Pune on the wrong side of the road.
