
Checks are in vogue again,so here is an ode to the oldie that has resurrected with a bang
This season,the buck for trendy fashion stops at the checkered flag. The walls of all fashion streets have colourful checks emblazoned on them. They are out there on clothes,hand-bags,shoes,hairbands,umbrellas,carpets and curtains. The favourite fabric of the punk revolution made its way to mainstream fashion and evolved over the decades to adorn the bell-bottoms and blouses of the retro era. After dimming on the horizon for some years,checks are coming back in fashion in a big way.
The biggest selling point of checks is its versatility. They go well with casual as well formal wear. Checked shirts are the staple of formal office shirts and are now available in a multitude of colours,ranging from sober blues and greens to more flamboyant shades of pink. Raju Chutake,owner of the CMark clothing store,says,Checks are definitely in fashion now. Stripes and other basic designs do continue to be popular,but sales of checked clothes have picked up off late. The designs in checks have also diversified and the colour range has expanded immensely. Purple can be called the colour of the season,with lots of combinations available with other colours. We sell all sorts of checked garments,from t-shirts,casuals to party-wear.
Many celebrities have re-kindled their passion for checks and are flaunting them in uber chic colours and combinations. For women there are choices galore! Checked shirts with different designs of mega sleeves and full sleeves are a rage. They go with jeans as well as formal wear,skirts and capris too. And there is an extensive range of tops up for grabs from knee-length tunics,jacket-style blouses to over-sized,baggy ones. Loose,unbuttoned checked shirts can be teamed famously with tube tops and high boots for an easy glamorous look. Ankita Ghosh,a first year college student,says,I adore checks. They look good and can be worn with almost any kind of pants. My friends and I regularly wear slightly baggy checked shirts to college; they look very fashionable but not over-the-top. Even the checked slippers and sandals available on the pavement shops look very cool.
Online shops have started advertising special clothing lines dedicated to checks. And men are not left out of the party. Shirts with large checks in variants of one colour make for sleek formal wear. In casuals,asymmetrical and crinkled checks rule. For the men willing to adopt an edgier look,shirts with tapering sleeves and single cuff buttons give off a slight metro-sexual hint. Bhushan Patil,who works with a leading MNC ,says,I like checks. With the right colour combination. They are easy on the eye,and exude an under-stated elegance.
