Almost 10 years ago, when Nagesh and Sukanya Patil enrolled their daughter, who has hearing and speech imparities,in a regular school, many had raised their eyebrows.
But on Tuesday,Priyanka Patil,a student of RN Poddar School, proved that her parents decision was correct. She scored an impressive 92% in the CBSE exam.
Priyanka had always been among the first three toppers in her class. She is extremely hardworking and religiously did her homework. Her teachers and classmates helped her whenever she had difficulty in taking down notes said her father Nagesh Patil, who works in a bank. Priyanka relied on hearing aid and lip reading to understand the lessons.
Looking at her dedication, enthusiasm and excellence,we decided to shift her to a CBSE school when she was going to standard V. By then we had realised that she would be able to cope with CBSE syllabus, said her mother Sukanya,a housewife, who is,according to Priyankas father, mainly responsible for their daughters success.
What is commendable is that along with other subjects, she managed to score 85% in English. Students with speech and hearing imparity find it tough to get such marks in languages. She has always been a good student and we were never worried about her, said Avnita Bir,principal,RN Poddar School. Teachers had found their own way to communicate with her and gave the support she needed.
