Talented Uttar Pradesh cricketer Parvinder Singh has been delivering the goods ever since he got a proper opportunity to show case his talent. It was only in 2008-09 that Parvinder got a full season to play and he proved his worth through his superb 138 run knock in the UP vs Tamil Nadu Ranji semi-final.
The right-handed batsman is seeing each match with a positive approach. On Wednesday, the Meerut player once again proved fruitful for the hosts and struck a century against Delhi in the state capital. This is his second ton of the season, the earlier one being against Saurashtra.
Talking to The Indian Express after playing a marathon 108 run innings which featured six boundaries and a six,Parvinder said,Presence or absence of stars does matter. Presently Delhi team is playing without some of its big players like Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir because they are playing in the Test at Kanpur while UP is in full strength with Team India players like Suresh Raina,RP Singh,Praveen Kumar,Piyush Chawla,so the UP team is certainly upbeat as presence of stars does make a difference.
Talking about his knock today, the 27-year-old said,Tanmays century on day-one had taken away the pressure from the middle-order. We had this at the back of our minds, that if we play the first session with caution and do not lose early wickets then it will be good for the team. I am happy that the partnership between me and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (75) flourished and the team scored a challenging 536 for seven in the first innings.
It was negative bowling from the visitors and the fielding was also quite defensive,so there were fewer shots.
Parvinder said that since there was no paucity of good bowlers in the team,if UP is able to take early wickets on the penultimate day, more pressure will be on Delhi and the hosts will get the vital first-innings lead before going for the victory.
