Bratya calls for debate on necessity of students’ union polls

KOLKATA:Following the death of SFI leader Sudipta Gupta,the state government is contemplating the necessity of students’ union elections at colleges and universities. Higher Education Minister Bratya basu on Monday said,“I feel there should be debate on the necessity in conducting students’ union elections. However,one must note that this is ultimately a political call. Political parties must have a political will to take this call.” At present,the state government has withheld the student polls following the death of a policeman at Garden Reach due to campus violence.

Heat wave alert in Burdwan

Burdwan:An alert was sounded on Monday in the industrial belt of Asansol-Durgapur in Burdwan in view of a heat wave forecast by the state meteorological department. The local administrations within the industrial belt encompassing Asansol,Andal and Durgapur have made arrangements for adequate water supply.
