The fast-track court on Thursday opened the final arguments of the defence in the ongoing trial of the alleged rape of woman executive by Shiv Kumar Yadav, an Uber cab driver.

Defence counsel D K Mishra opened his final arguments and argued that while the prosecution has alleged that Yadav had tried to force the victim into unnatural sex, it has failed to charge Yadav under Section 377 (unnatural offences) of the IPC. Rebutting this argument, Special Public Prosecutor argued that Section 377, which also deals with carnal intercourse, is covered under the new definition of rape for which the accused had been already chargesheeted. The court will continue to hear the final arguments on Friday.
