She is an unlikely artist, but Defence Minister AK Antony’s wife,Elizabeth Antony, confesses that she has harboured artistic inclinations since her days in school. “I have won many awards,” she says, looking at her paintings that comprise the exhibition titled “The Seasons of Nature”. It is not her love for art that led to the exhibition. She was prompted to share her paintings in oil, acrylic and watercolours,to fulfill her endeavour of raising awareness about cancer.

“My husband is in the government and everyday people come for financial help, for which he gives recommendations. But that is never enough. Some of my friends were selling paintings for a very good price and I thought I should also give it a try,” says Elizabeth, who is the founder of Navoothan Charitable Foundation,a NGO that is now working to provide aid to cancer patients. In the last three years, she has worked for women’s empowerment and welfare of senior citizens.

Despite no formal training in art,Elizabeth’s artwork has attracted attention — ten out of 27 works have already found buyers. The canvases project

her connect with nature, with an occasional work

depicting streets and houses. Changing seasons of nature can be seen through her vivid colours in Marshy Land in Monsoon,Trees of Autumn and The Summer Forest.

The exhibition is on at
