Party Line

For last three years, businessman Vikas Garg has been heading to the beaches of Phuket and Pattaya to ring in the New Year.

Bally Sagoo,DJ Sasha or a medley of electronic bands — who are you partying with tonight?

For last three years, businessman Vikas Garg has been heading to the beaches of Phuket and Pattaya to ring in the New Year. This time, however,he has done away with travel plans. “There is so much happening in Delhi this year that I don’t feel the need to go abroad to enjoy myself,” he says,as he enthusiastically draws up a list of places to celebrate New Year’s eve.

Ankur Arora,Assistant F&B Manager at The Lalit, agrees that Delhi will be celebrating with renewed vigour tonight. “Last year due to the market slump, people did not want to spend a lot on New Year partying. As a result, hotels and restaurants toned down the festivities.” Now,the economy has bounced back and the revelers are ready to party hard.

The Lalit will host a 12 hour party at its bar 24×7 from 7 pm today. “We have tied up with Audio Ashram,a musical collective that manages alternate music acts, for our Electronic Dance Music party. Fourteen electronic bands like Jalabee Cartel,Midival Punditz,Kalyug,BLOT and Reggae Rajhas will be performing. This will be the longest electronic dance party in town,” he adds. Nikhel Mahajan, creative head,Audio Ashram, adds that most of these bands are playing at New Year’s party in Delhi for the first time. All this comes for a Rs 10,000 per couple, which includes unlimited beverages and tapas.

If The Lalit’s electronic evening has competition,it is from the electronic music wiz and the 2004 Grammy nominee DJ Sasha who will be performing at an electronic dance night at Gurgaon’s Tau Devi Lal cricket stadium. Accompanying him today will be British House DJ Matt Darey, who has sold more than two million records worldwide. The duo are performing at Amnesia Organiser Rajesh Kottu of Kottu Entertainment says the venue will be packed with 10,000 party-goers,all of them dancing to the heady tracks of the two DJs. “We have employed 200 security men to ensure a smooth function,” says Hyderabad-based Kottu. There are three separate categories, depending on the tickets you buy—¿ Rs 12,500,Rs 5,000 and Rs 2,500.

For some good ol’ bhangra music, head to PVR Blu-O,Ambience Mall, where popular singer Bally Sagoo will be holding forte. Expect Bollywood hits and rollicking Punjabi fare as the UK-based Sagoo gets into the groove. “Last year was our first year and we were testing waters so things were pretty tame. We wanted to usher in 2011 in a big way,” says Puneet Sharma,VP,Blu-O. The Sagoo magic has worked as Blu-O has already sold 175 passes at Rs 6,000 per couple and only a handful still remain.

Another musician from the UK is the highlight at Quantum,Centrestage Mall,in Noida. Juggy D,a bhangra DJ,is back on popular demand after last year’s rocking New Year’s party at the same venue. “We are calling him back, and 300 couple passes have already flown off the counters,” says Kartik Bhargava, spokesperson,Quantum. Tickets are priced at Rs 5,000,Rs 7,000 and Rs 15,000 per couple. “We might refuse walk-in couples today if we are full to capacity,” says Sharma, who is also offering a lavish buffet. Let the party begin.
