Smart traffic signals soon

Traffic snarls and long waiting hours at busy intersections will soon be a thing of the past.

Traffic snarls and long waiting hours at busy intersections will soon be a thing of the past. The much-awaited Vehicle Automated Traffic Signal Controller is set to be operational within a fortnight at traffic signals in the city,a traffic police officer said.

The Chandigarh Police have already purchased the equipment. Initially,the system will be installed at the Sector 34-35 traffic signal,Piccadily signal and Press Chowk.

Costing lakhs of rupees,the system automatically changes the signal based on the vehicles lined up.

“Such a system is operational in Bangalore. The traffic rush is maximum on Himalyan Marg and that is why we have decided to install the system there under a pilot project. The work has been completed. It will be functional within a fortnight,” DSP (Traffic) Vijay Kumar said.
