Two arrested for extortion bid

The city police on Thursday night foiled an extortion bid of Rs 50 lakh from a city-based advocate,N K Patel,a resident of Visamo Society,and arrested two accused,Dalpat Prajapati (21) and Karan Thakur (21),residents of Akoli village in Banaskantha district.

Chandkheda Inspector T S Patel said the complainant had received a total of 10 extortion calls between June 3 and Thursday.

“A trap was laid and Prajapati,who had come to receive the money,was arrested from Chandkheda. Thakur was arrested after Prajapati named him

as a co-accused,” said Inspector Patel.

The police said the two accused were in a financial crunch and wanted to make some fast money.

“They had noted Patel’s number during their visit to his office in the Sabarmati area about a month ago and have confessed to having called up Patel by posing as one Imran Khan.”
