Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand, Feb 19 (ANI): The forest officials in Uttarakhand’s Pithoragarh district caught a leopard from a residential area. The leopard was trapped in a net after being tranquilised. Area resident Deepak Chandra said a woman was saved from being attacked by the leopard. The leopard jumped over the head of a woman while she was working in open area in her house a day before yesterday. She was saved. But since then this leopard has been roaming around the city. It has not been caught yet. Today we saw it in a residential area around 6 a.m. (GMT 00:30), from where it ran away and injured two people. We have now trapped it. Chandra added that the leopard was in search of her two cubs in the city, while one was taken to the forest, the other is still missing.

Shimla/ Uttarakhand, Feb 15 (ANI): People in Shimla and upper reaches of Uttarakhand on Monday struggled to carry out their daily activities after temperatures plummeted due to a fresh spell of snowfall in the region. People lit bonfires and wore layers of clothes to keep themselves warm. The minimum temperature recorded in Shimla, which has been receiving snowfall since Saturday, was 3° Celsius and would further dip at night. Shimla is experiencing severe cold conditions throughout the day and night. It has become very difficult to work. We have to keep sitting next to bonfires to keep ourselves warm.In Uttarakhand, Border Roads Organisation (BRO) personnel were seen clearing the snow from the roads using bulldozers in Gangotri region.

Dehradun, Jan 27 (ANI): Uttarakhand DGP BS Sidhu on Wednesday said appropriate action would be taken against those who conducted a bizarre fitness test, where constables were told to carry cops on their backs. Last Sunday, “overweight” policemen in Uddham Singh Nagar District were summoned to the police lines in Rudrapur. They were made to go through some bizarre physical tests in the presence of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP).

Rudrapur, Jan 27 (ANI): A bizarre fitness drill for cops was conducted by Senior Superintendent of Police in Udham Singh Nagar district. During the drill, overweight constables were summoned to the police lines and the SSP was made to go through some physical tests. The 'overweight' police constable had to carry seniors on their backs for long distances. According to sources, some of the policemen, who are overweight, have been advised to shift to armed police and reduce their weight.

Heli taxi service launched to promote state tourism

Haldwani, Jan 19 (ANI): A heli taxi service has been launched in Uttarakhand to promote regional tourism across the state. The taxi service was started in Haldwani city of Uttarakhand. Besides, the lake view and snowfall, now visitors can also enjoy the Himalayan view through air ride. The heli taxi service was earlier launched in the state in December but the route had no connectivity to the beautiful panoramic city of Munsiyari. The initial take off of the heli taxi included five passengers. State officials came together to start the taxi service successfully.

Ardh Kumbh Mela starts in Haridwar

Haridwar, Jan 12 (ANI): The Ardh Kumbh Mela 2016 started on Tuesday at Haridwar’s ‘Har ki Pauri’ ghat. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat also offered prayers. The observance of Maha Kumbh Mela has achieved international popularity as 'The biggest act of faith'. Millions of pilgrims come to participate in the holy event of Maha Kumbh with tremendous faith. The pilgrims come from all walks of life, with a belief that their sins will be washed off in the holy waters of the sacred river Ganges if they take a dip during the Kumbh. The Ardh Kumbh Mela will take place in the holy city of Haridwar from January 2016 to April 2016.
