Compared to 2019 polls, 50,000 more voted in Maval, but percentage still slipped

In 2019 elections, Maval seat had recorded 59.87 per cent polling. In this election, Maval has registered 54.87 per cent polling, which is five per cent less, figures released by the election office have revealed.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Maval had registered 60.54 per cent polling while Shirur had registered 59.77 per cent polling. Pune and Baramati, the other two constituencies in Pune district, went to polls on April 23.

Both seats go to polls on Monday, in the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha elections. In Maval, initially, both Shiv Sena candidate and sitting MP Shrirang Barne and NCP candidate Parth Pawar had refrained from criticising each other but started doing so later.

If Parth is struggling with his words, the BJP and Shiv Sena, too, have not been able to get their act together in Maval. Barne seems to be ploughing the lonely furrow with the BJP camp giving him the cold shoulder.

Jagtap and Barne have been at loggerheads for over a decade now. In 2014, Barne had defeated Jagtap in the Lok Sabha election by a margin of over 1.5 lakh votes.
