MI vs GG, WPL 2026 Highlights: Harmanpreet’s 71* powers MI to 7-wicket win

Harmanpreet with the winning runs! Devine bowls the last over, MI needing 5 to win off it. We have seen this happening before but this time, Devine can't keep them away. Carey takes a single first ball and then Harmanpreet hammers the second through deep square leg and deep midwicket for four.

That is MI's highest succesfull chase in the WPL and fittingly, it is the skipper who takes them over the line. She may have been dropped a million times but there was also a certain sense of inevitability about Harmanpreet's knock today, as contradictory as that sounds. First defeat of the season for the Giants and well, it might as well have been three in three had they held on to their catches today.

The MI captain taking matters into her hands now. Rajeshwari Gayakwad returns to bowl the 18th over, Harmanpreet takes a big swing at the first ball. It's miscued, Fulmali runs back from extra cover but she drops it! The batters run two. A single after that and then the third ball goes right past Mooney for four byes. Single next ball and then Harmanpreet sends the fifth ball through cover for four. The last ball is sent over cover for another four.

Harmanpreet finishes on 62 offm 39, Care on 33 off 19.

A single off Kashvee Gautam's second ball of the 17th over brings up a 33-ball half-century for the MI captain. Just a little raise of the bat, she knows that the job's not done yet.

Devine strikes first ball of the 13th over! Fullish slow ball outside off, it seems to dip late on Amanjot. She reaches out for it, ends up miscuing it to Gardner at long on.

Georgia Wareham continues for her second over in the ninth, the first ball was floated up in the slot for Harmanpreet and she smashes it past mid on. Single next ball and then Amanjot shuffles across for the fourth ball and paddles it to the fine leg boundary for four. Then she sends the fifth ball over mid on for another four. Single off the last ball and Amanjot is on 24 off 16, Harmanpreet on 16 off 14.

MI 76/2 in 9 overs

Matthews miscues, it goes high up in the air and Devine takes the catch at fine leg. Kashvee Gautam strikes. Angled in on a length on middle and off stump. Matthews goes accross the stumps but gets a little too much under the delivery.

Big appeal for stumping, the umpires send it upstairs. Fullish delivery in the channel that moves away, Kamalini takes a big swing and misses. Mooney seemed very sure of the stumping and she is vindicated, Kamalini's backfoot was slightly out of the crease when the stumps were broken.

Amanjot bowls the last over, Wareham sends the first ball to the boundary for four. Single next ball and then Fulmali smashes the third between long on and deep midwicket. The fourth is sent soaring over backward square leg for six. Two runs off the fifth ball and Bharti Fulmali smashes the last ball over deep backward square for another six.

She finishes unbeaten on 36 off just 15 balls!

This is not something you get to see everyday. Amanjot Kaur bowling the 17th over, her second ball is full on leg, Fulmali moved across the stumps before missing her shot. MI appeal and umpire Gayathri Venugopalan puts her finger up. Fulmali reviews though and ball tracking shows that it is sliding down leg.

Another appeal next ball and once again Venugopalan raises her finger. Fulmali reviews this one too, once again the ball is sliding down leg. Two singles after that and then the ball goes off Fulmali's pads and it goes behind for four byes.

GG 143/5 in 17 overs

Ismail finishes her four overs with figures of 1/25. Georgia Wareham with a rather lucky inside edge that goes past short fine leg for four. She finishes the over on 25 off 22 balls, Ayushi on seven off 10.

GG 130/4 in 15 overs

Matthews had a horrid time in the powerplay but she has started her third over in the best possible, dismissing the dangerours Kanika. First ball of the 11th over is dangled on a length outside off, Ahuja takes the bait. She smashes it high into the night sky above Navi Mumbai, Carey goes to her left at long on and takes the catch.

Kerr's first ball in the ninth over is a bit of a drag down outside off, Gardner thrashes that though point for four. Single off the third ball and then Ahuja sends Kerr's fourth between long on and deep midwicket for four. She takes a single next ball and then Gardner blasts the last one past extra cover for a scorcher of a four.

Gardner on 20 off 10, Ahuja on 33 off 15.

GG 96/2 in 9 overs

Well, Ahuja sent the last ball of the fifth over from Ismail between extra cover and point for four and then Mooney launches the first ball of the next over, for which Nicola Carey comes in, over fine leg for six. The third ball is sent over mid on for four. A single off the fifth ball makes it 62 runs in the powerplay for GG.

Ahuja is on 20 off nine balls, Mooney on 32 off 24.

EDGED AND GONE THIS TIME! Sharp catch from the 17-year-old and Ismail has Devine. Fourth ball of the third over, Ismail bowls it short outside off. Devine has a swipe at it, it takes the outside edge. Kamalini dives to her right and takes it with both hands.

Fifth ball of the first over, Ismail sent it in back of a length in the channel. Mooney offers the full face of the bat, it takes a big edge and goes to the wicketkeeper Gunalan Kamalini for what should've been a straightforward catch around the height of her hips slightly to her left. However, it slips right through her gloves! Harmanpreet stands with her hips in her hands, Ismail is less succesfull at containing her emotions. Matthews offers a few words of encouragement for the 17-year-old. Harmanpreet later seems to go have a word with Ismail, who lets out a smile before sending in the final ball of the over. Got to feel for the young Kamalini.

GG has just released a statement in which they are saying that Anushka Sharma will be "out of action for a short period as she recovers from a minor injury sustained while fielding during our match against Delhi Capitals on Sunday night." "

"Anushka is under the close supervision of the team’s medical staff and is progressing well. She will be a big miss for the side, but her health and long-term well-being remain our priority. The entire Gujarat Giants family is firmly behind her and looks forward to welcoming her back soon."

Harmanpreet Kaur: We’re going to bowl first. I believe in dew, and especially when you’re playing late games, chasing is always a better option. I think we’re ticking all the areas. We’re discussing in the meetings and the bowlers are coming and executing their plans. I think while batting, the first six overs is something we’re really looking to go and bat positively. And now Hayley’s back, she’s fit, so hopefully we’ll click in that area as well. Unfortunately, Nat (Sciver-Brunt) is not well today, so in place of her, Hayley’s back. She’s someone who, you know, always does well with both bat and ball, and we’re really looking to, you know, have her come in and take responsibility for the team.

Ashleigh Gardner: I can’t win one (toss) at the moment, but that’s okay. I think the powerplay has been a huge one. Obviously, we’ve got so much experience at the top of the order with Sophie and Moons batting together. They’ve spent so much time out in the middle in franchise cricket. So I guess to have a combination that’s worked in the past and be able to put it into practice here has been really pleasing to see. Hopefully, we can do it again. You’ll probably have to wait and see. I feel like sometimes it’s almost just going with your gut. Some people bowl really well on the day, and you kind of throw them the ball and ask them to do a job. But I think for us, it’s about keeping our plans really simple. You know this ground, it’s obviously really hard to defend. So making sure that we put on a big total for them to hopefully not chase. Overseas players add a lot of experience and depth, but I think the Indian players are actually the ones who win you tournaments. All the Indian players who’ve come in and done a job for us have been fantastic. They’ve stepped up at different times, and I guess as a captain it makes your job a little bit easier, not having to rely on one or two players or overseas players for that matter. So for us, it’s about celebrating the small wins, the success that comes with that, and just trying to keep things really simple. One team change today. Anushka is unfortunately out with an injury, and Ayushi makes her debut today.
