Singh defeated Communist Party of India leader Abdesh Kumar Roy. Singh's political career began in the early 1980s, rooted in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the ideological mentor of the BJP. His early association with the RSS significantly influenced his political beliefs and strategies.
