Birthdays are always special, with many people going beyond their limits to surprise their close ones, planning elaborate gestures or experiences to make the day memorable. However, a Surat-based businessman came under fire after he blocked a busy road to set off fireworks to celebrate his son’s birthday. The incident has triggered widespread outrage on social media.

Several videos recorded on December 21 and later shared on social media show Deepak Ijardar and several associates stopping traffic in the Dumas area to mark his son’s 19th birthday by lighting sparklers and bursting strings of firecrackers on the stretch.

In one of the videos, Ijardar was seen standing in the middle of the road holding two sparkler launchers as vehicles waited on either side. When a car honks at him, he turns toward it and points the lit fireworks in its direction before turning back to continue firing the sparklers into the air. Another man accompanying him is then seen speaking to the people inside the car.

Anothers videos show a long string of crackers being lit directly on the road, while another clip captures Ijardar launching sparklers from the roadside as vehicles slowly pass by.

Responding to the backlash, the businessman defended himself, arguing that fireworks are frequently used at events held on nearby grounds, often causing traffic disruptions for hours.

“I am a celebrity. What serious crime did I commit if I stopped you for five minutes?” he said, as reported by Zee Media.

Police, however, registered a case against Ijardar, a builder, for disturbing public order. According to an official police release, “It was found that Ijardar burst firecrackers and set off fireworks on the public road in front of the post office near his residence, on the occasion of his son’s birthday, in a manner that caused inconvenience to the public and in violation of the Police Commissioner’s notification.”
