A new research has revealed that 70 per cent of hepatitis C patients could be cured with an early treatment. Researchers, led by the University of New South Wales, have carried out the study and found 70 per cent of hepatitis C patients could be cured if they seek an early treatment for the disease, the 'Hepatology' journal. The study also found that a standard combination drug treatment was as effective as a stronger regimen of therapy that is associated with serious side effects. Most routes of the infection include contact with infected needles and sexual transmission. According to the study's lead author Professor Greg Dore, early treatment for hepatitis C is vital to prevent the onset of serious liver conditions. They have based their findings on a randomised control trial, involving 702 patients from Australia, and 194 from New Zealand,Canada,Thailand,Argentina and Mexico. All had hepatitis C genotype 1 the most difficult to treat.
