In a scathing editorial in today’s issue of Shiv Sena mouthpiece Saamna, the party has slammed the Supreme Court for not allowing the use of loudspeakers between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. during the Ganesh festival starting on Wednesday.

By doing so, the editorial said, the Supreme Court has clipped the wings of Hindus, while ignoring the noise pollution caused by loudspeakers in mosques.

‘‘The boards of satyamev jayate are displayed on the walls of courts, but Hindus have to digest the bitter truth (of inequality),’’ the editorial stated. ‘‘Is peace not disturbed and pollution not caused when loudspeakers blare azaans at dawn and dusk?’’

The editorial said that Hindus were being ‘‘discriminated against in the name of law’’. It added that the apex court followed ‘‘different sets of rules for Hindus and Muslims’’.

It pointed out that after the apex court’s decision in Shah Bano case, Muslims dared the court, burnt the Tricolour and came out on the streets.

‘‘The routes of Ganesh processions are decided after consulting Muslims and restrictions like not playing music opposite mosques, not throwing gulal (red powder) are imposed,’’ it said. ‘‘But when loudspeakers blare out azaans from atop mosques, do they shower peace? Are we in Hindustan or Islamabad?’’
