The wife of former Pakistan captain Wasim Akrams died at a hospital here on Sunday following multiple organ failure. She was 42.

Huma had been admitted on October 20 in an emergency situation, suffering from a fever,en route to Singapore from Lahore.

She was to be treated for tumours in Singapore but a fever led to infection in her blood, which rapidly down-spiralled to sepsis.

She suffered severe refractory shock, and died of cardiac arrest, said Dr Ramesh Venkataraman of the Apollo Hospital, where she had been admitted to the intensive care unit. She was put on a ventilator and dialysis unit but failed to respond to the drugs and treatment, with her vital parameters keeping low.

PCB chairman Ijaz Butt and chief operating officer Wasim Bari expressed the PCBs grief.

We are with Wasim and his family at this hour of need and pray to God to give them strength to bear this great and irreparable loss, Butt said a statement. All the management of PCB and fellow cricketers have also extended their condolences and prayed eternal peace for the departed soul.
