All candidates applying for government jobs in Karnataka will have a five-year relaxation in the age limit. The decision was made at a Cabinet meeting held Thursday evening.

“The relaxation is being provided to benefit candidates affected due to the delay in government recruitments over the past few years,” a source said.

In November 2024, the Karnataka government froze recruitments until the one-man commission formed under Justice Nagamohan Das submitted its report on internal reservation.

In September last year, the Cabinet agreed to provide a three-year relaxation to candidates. With the internal reservation yet to be resolved, the government decided to extend the age limit.

Following the report submitted by the Commission last year, the state government passed the Karnataka SC Sub-Classification Act, 2025, during the winter session of the legislature. However, its implementation was delayed after the Governor returned the Bill seeking clarifications earlier this month.

According to government data, more than four lakh jobs were vacant in various government departments, universities, boards and corporations. Though the government has cleared recruitment for around 24,000 jobs, which were approved by the Finance Department, recruitments have been put on hold due to the delay in notifying the 2025 Internal Reservation Act.

The Cabinet also decided to implement the Artificial Intelligence (AI) based Karnataka Advanced Attendance Management System (KAAMS) for all teaching and non-teaching staff belonging to the Department of School Education and Literacy.
