Cyclone Gaja: The storm has uprooted 1,27,448 trees and has damaged several electric poles and crops in the state. Districts like Pudukottai, Thanjavur and Cuddalore bore most of the brunt of the cyclone.

New Delhi, Feb 25 (ANI): The Government of India (GoI) is sending relief material to help cyclone hit Fiji. Relief material, which is being airlifted from New Delhi and Chennai, is being sent to Fiji's capital Suva. The relief material includes basic food supplies, medicines, tents and kitchen sets. The relief material is being sent in consultation with Officiating Ambassador of India in the Fiji capital Suva. The island nation of Fiji was hit by category five Cyclone Winston, with wind speed 325 km/hr and waves up to 12m high. The cyclone has caused widespread damage to the housing stock and power disruption in the island nation.
Chennai, Feb 24 (ANI): Nalini Sriharan, a convict in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, left the Vellore jail on Wednesday to attend her father's last rites in Chennai. She was escorted by ten cops. Nalini was granted parole on Tuesday for 12 hours to attend her father's funeral, who died in Tirunelvelli. According to the parole condition, Nalini will have to report back in Vellore prison before 8 p.m. today. Nalini and three others, including her husband Murugan, were originally awarded the death sentence after they were convicted for their role in the assassination of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi and have been behind the bars for the last 25 years.
New Delhi, Jan 23 (ANI): The Airports Authority of India will enhance its marketing strategy to make airports more operationally and commercially viable. At the Airport Marketing Conference held recently in New Delhi, the officials and experts chalked out a strategy to make commercial use of airport infrastructure in the country. Formed in April 1995, the Airports Authority of India manages 125 destinations, including 77 domestic and 21 international airports in the country. The Authority is also looking at focusing on the cargo segment to boost its revenues. It has been undertaking the International Cargo handling operations at international airports including Chennai, Kolkata, Lucknow, Coimbatore, Amritsar and Guwahati. Similarly, the Authority has identified 24 domestic airports across five regions, including three civil enclaves to develop such integrated facilities. They include Port Blair, Coimbatore, Jaipur, Raipur, Ahmedabad and others. The Airports Authority of India, which has developed infrastructure at many of its airports, is looking forward to make its commercial use.
Chennai, Jan 11 (ANI): Around 400 dogs participated in Madras Canine Club’s All Breeds Championship Dog Show in Chennai. Breeds like Rajapalayam, Chippiparai, German shepherd, Great Danes, little hound, Doberman Pinscher and bull dogs among others showed off their skills and won the heart of the audience. Making a case for promoting Indian breeds, Mr. Sudarsan said that the Madras Canine Club and the Kennel Club of India has been creating awareness about Rajapalayam, Chippiparai and Mudhol Hound.
