2026 Oscar nominations snubs and surprises: Homebound, Wicked 2, Paul Mescal, Chase Infiniti, Guillermo del Toro miss out

The nominations for the 2026 Oscars are finally out. Director Ryan Coogler found himself at the top of the mountain as Sinners dominated the nominations. Critically acclaimed feature films and documentary films found themselves rightly acknowledged in the nominations, but a few lost out.

The one that broke the hearts of Hindi film fans all over the world was Neeraj Ghaywan’s Homebound, which failed to make the cut in the Best International Film category.

Universal Pictures’ Wicked 2, which made $522 million worldwide, didn’t get nominated for a single award. Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo missed out on Best Actress and Best Actress in a Supporting Role, respectively, and the film didn’t get any nominations for visual effects, screenplay, score, or song. On the other side of the spectrum, Sinners bagged 16 nominations, which is the most in the history of the event. Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another bagged 12 nominations, including Best Picture, Director, and Actor. Josh Safdie’s Marty Supreme, starring Timothée Chalamet, bagged 10 nods for itself, and the majority of the internet is putting its chips on the young actor to win Best Actor.
