YouTube, Google’s video-streaming platform, is known for simplifying lives with its vast array of user-uploaded tutorial videos. But who would have imagined medical professionals turning to it for patient treatment guidance? A viral video from Satellite Hospital in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, shows a lab attendant performing an ECG scan on a patient after watching a tutorial on YouTube, sparking criticism on social media.

In the viral footage, family members can be seen objecting to the attendant’s approach. “Conducting the scan without proper knowledge could endanger his life,” a family member warns. The attendant responded, explaining he had no alternative since many staff members had left for Diwali.

“Everything is set up; the machine will work,” he reassures in the video.

The said video gained traction immediately, prompting reactions from social media users. “May be he is not ECG technician. Sometimes, due to shortage of staff’s, somebody has forced to do others duties,” a user wrote. “Doing ecg takes no speciality , reading one is the main thing. Anybody can do ecg just like measuring blood sugar,” another user commented.

“Irony: Certified technicians like us are out of the system,” a third user said.

Dr BS Jodha, principal of the affiliated medical college, directed an inquiry, assuring appropriate action into the matter, a report by Times Now said.

In September, a 15-year-old boy died after a fake doctor in Bihar’s Saran district performed a botched gallbladder stone removal surgery after watching YouTube videos. According to reports, the doctor operated on the teenager without the family’s consent.
