Vikas Tomar, 51, head constable at Chhatari police station in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr, performed CPR on a baby monkey that fainted from dehydration due to a heat stroke on May 24, reported MSN.
The video of Tomar heroically pumping the monkey’s chest is being widely circulated on social media, earning widespread admiration.
MSN reported SHO Bhoopendra Singh as saying, “Due to excessive heat, a monkey fell from a tree and fainted. Several monkeys had gathered around and it was very hard to rescue the baby.”
The situation was tense. The presence of a lot of people distressed the monkeys and this, in turn, complicated the rescue operation.
Tomar recounted the incident saying, “We are trained to handle emergencies. Since the bodies of humans and monkeys are very similar, I tried to revive the monkey while my colleagues protected me from an agitated troupe. I pumped the chest for almost 45 minutes with intermittent rubbing and pouring little amounts of water into the mouth and finally it revived.”
Tomar’s dedication and skill were crucial in saving the young animal’s life. He added, “The monkey comes to the police station daily and I’m happy to see him playing.”

Veterinarian Dr Hari Om Sharma confirmed the severity of the situation and informed, “The monkey suffered a heat stroke and fainted due to dehydration. Timely help saved its life. After it became conscious, we administered an antibiotic.”
The quick and effective response by constable Tomar was vital in ensuring the baby monkey’s recovery. Social media users have lauded Tomar’s kindness in the comments.
As the video went viral, Tomar’s daughter Prachi Tomar also commented on the video saying, “He is my Dad, feeling soo proud after seeing this.” Another user said, “This policeman is gem.” While a third user shared, “Superb – he won himself a seat in heaven.”
