Kejriwal targets channels, BJP

The Election Commission should institute a code of conduct and a regulatory authority for the conduct of opinion polls.

AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal Wednesday took on the media for airing opinion polls conducted by agencies named in a purported sting by a private news channel.
Kejriwal demanded that channels that had aired the polls conducted by these agencies should offer an explanation. He also asked the Editors’ Guild and the News Broadcasters Standards Authority to ascertain the veracity of the purported sting and conduct an inquiry into the role of news channels.

“The channels such as Times Now, Headlines Today and India TV, which have used “polls” conducted by these agencies under cloud, should offer an explanation and make full disclosure to the public.

The Election Commission should institute a code of conduct and a regulatory authority for the conduct of opinion polls… All media organisations must…make full disclosure of their political connections and business interests outside the media,” he said.

He also asked the BJP and its PM candidate Narendra Modi how much they “paid” channels and agencies to air doctored opinion polls. “The country wants to know how much BJP and Modiji has paid to each channel and opinion poll agency and for how long,” he said.
