Former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif declared victory in national elections on Friday, saying his party has emerged as the largest and would talk to other groups to form a coalition government as it had failed to win a clear majority on its own.

Sharif’s announcement came after more than three-quarters of the 265 seats had declared results, more than 24 hours after polling ended on Thursday, marred by the deaths of 28 people in militant attacks.

Here is what we know so far:

🔴 Independent candidates backed by jailed ex-PM Imran Khan have won 95 out of 235 seats in which the counting has been completed, said a Reuters report quoting broadcaster GEO News.

🔴 Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz)(PML-N), which has won at least 66 seats as per the last update, may form a coalition government with independent candidates.

🔴 The four Sharif family members of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz party have finally managed to win their National Assembly seats from their stronghold Lahore. PML-N supremo and former premier Nawaz Sharif, 74, won from NA-130. He, however, faced a significant defeat against independent candidate Shahzada Gastasap in the NA-15 Mansehra constituency.

🔴 As per the latest update, Bilawal Bhutto’s Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has won 51 seats.

🔴 PPP chief Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, son of assassinated premier Benazir Bhutto, secured victory in two seats — the NA-194 seat in Larkana and the NA-196 seat in Qamber Shahdadtkot-I with 85,370 votes. However, Bilawal lost the Lahore National Assembly seat NA-127 to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s Atta Tarar, managing to get only 15,000 votes.
