A newly married woman has taken the Internet by storm after her guitar performance during an all-women gathering, while wearing the traditional ghunghat (veil). The now-viral video has triggered a conversation, with several users questioning the “regressive” practice of sporting a veil after marriage. Many applauded her skill and said true talent shines through any barrier, while others lamented that she still had to navigate such traditions.
In the video, the bride carefully adjusts both her guitar and her veil before singing “Ek Din Aap”, the Shah Rukh Khan classic from the 1997 film “Yes Boss”. Just before she starts, another woman beside her repeatedly pulls the veil forward to keep her face hidden. Wearing red bangles, symbolising newlywed prosperity, the bride confidently strums her guitar and completes her performance.
Sharing the video, an Instagram user Arsh Utkarsh wrote, “If talent par ghunghat daalna had a scene.”

The video has amassed over eight million likes and 19 million views. “We still live in an India where ghunghat is valued more than talent, a user wrote. “You’re such a stunner. However am I the only one hating those patriarchal blank faces of women around? And the way the pallu was pulled so many times. I got uncomfortable seeing that,” another user commented.
“This reel supposed to make me happy but something is not right because watching this something doesn’t feel right,” a third user reacted.
Earlier, Bihar’s popular educator and YouTuber Khan Sir sparked a debate on social media after his wife was seen sporting a red veil during their wedding festivities. “It was my wife’s decision to wear the veil at the reception. She said it was her childhood dream and that every girl dreams of becoming a bride with a veil. As per her, the bride has a different identity wearing the veil in a crowd of people,” he said after the backlash.
