While the JDU,RJD and Lok Janshakti Party have refrained from deploying film stars and starlets to add Bollywood shine to their poll agendas, the Congress is banking on the right mix of Rahul magic and some masala, especially to get the youth votes. The BJP,on the other hand, has in-house Shatrughan Sinha and Smriti Irani, besides Navjot Singh Sidhu.
Last week,Bhagyashree, who first burst on to the film scene with Salman Khan-starrer Maine Pyar Kiya and now works in Bhojpuri films, was out campaigning with Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam in Patna, for Kapildev Prasad Yadav. Her message was brief: You all must help the Congress win with a big margin.
In Bhojpuri film actor Ravi Kishan, the Congress has got another big name. He has been attracting huge crowds everywhere, especially with a line he famously coined during his stay in TV reality show Bigg Boss. Zindagi jhand ba,phir bhi ghamand ba Though there is little to be proud of in life,we still take pride in it. He refrains from attacking Nitish. Bihar has surely made progress, but the Congress has the potential to offer better development to Bihar, is Kishans campaign line.
His star in Bollywood may be on the decline but Chunky Pandey was also there, along with Kishan,in the first phase of polls in Araria. Both got such a big crowd at Araria that people clambering on the wooden platform to be seen with them brought down the stage.
Says Bihar Congress spokesperson Premchand Mishra: Even Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta had agreed to campaign for us,but they could not because of tight schedules. Another Bigg Boss celebrity,Monika Bedi came once for Banka Independent candidate Pappu Yadav.
Those banking on in-house star power include not just the BJP,but even LJP. His sons first film may not have released yet,but LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan is banking on Chirag to do the trick.
The RJDs Lalu Prasad Yadav apparently believes son Tejaswi alone can take on film stars, while for the JDU,CM Nitish Kumar is the biggest star.
