The Gujarat Police declared a terror alert in the state on Saturday,following Intelligence Bureau (IB) inputs about two foreign nationals believed to have entered Mumbai for a possible terror strike. This follows the Union Home Ministry indicating on Friday that apart from Mumbai,terrorists could have sneaked into other states too to create trouble during the festive season. The terrorists,Kalimuddin Khan alias Rameshwar Pandit and Hafeez Sharif from Pakistan and Bangladesh respectively,are members of Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami (HuJi),the IB has said. The state police issued an alert to the state ATS and Crime Branch to keep a strict vigil in Ahmedabad. The Ahmedabad Crime Branch has begun searches at guest houses,hotels and other spots in the city where the alleged terrorists or members of their group could be staying. City police commissionarates have deployed special patrols to keep a watch at Ganesh pandals and religious monuments in all cities for the next two weeks. In Ahmedabad,four companies of Rapid Action Force and four companies of State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) have been deployed. DCP DH Parmar said,"The RAF and SRPF was called for the festival on Saturday. Besides that,we have called for more security from paramilitary forces after the alert 1,300 homeguards and 400 jawans from police headquarters. In Surat,five SRPF companies and two border wing forces have been deployed for security.
