Police assault on a CPM worker,who black-flagged Chief Minister Oommen Chandy as part Left agitation in the solar scam,has come under sharp criticism.

CPM activist D Jayaprasad had broken the police cordon at the venue of Chandys programme on the outskirts of the city on Wednesday. Using his black shirt as a flag,Jayaprasad jumped in front of Chandys motorcade forcing the police to take him away and a sub-inspector was seen assaulting and treading on him.

The incident drew outrage from both the CPM and the ruling Congress-led UDF.

While Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan demanded the inspector be booked for attempt to murder,senior Congress leader V M Sudheeran termed the act barbaric.
