Lok Sabha MP and BJP spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi said Chandy and former Union minister K C Venugopal, also an accused in the case, were Rahul’s “friends” and the Congress should answer questions on such a serious charge against its leaders, instead of targeting BJP leaders.
Solar scam accused Saritha S Nair alleged that Oommen Chandy subjected her to unnatural sex at the chief minister’s official residence in 2012, while KC Venugopal raped her at the official residence of A P Anil Kumar.
Senior Supreme Court lawyer Kapil Sibal, appearing for Oommen Chandy, made submissions when the court took up the writ petition filed by the former CM seeking to quash the solar panel scam inquiry commission report.
Kochi, Feb 21 (ANI): Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, along with UAE Minister of Cabinet Affairs Mohammad Al Gergawi, inaugurated the phase 1 of Smart City project, including 5 lakh sq ft information technology tower. The project is a joint venture of Dubai Holding and the state government. Smart Cities Mission is an urban renewal programme by the the Union Ministry of Urban Development to develop 100 smart cities all over the country.
Trivandrum, Feb 12 (ANI): Protests broke out inside the Kerala Assembly while Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy was presenting the interim budget on Friday. The Left Democratic Front (LDF) protested inside and outside the Kerala Assembly against the Kerala Government, saying the interim budget was leaked. The LDF members holding banners and placards raised slogans against Chandy. Thereafter, the LDF members marched out of the House and boycotted the budget session.
Trivandrum, Feb 09 (ANI): The Left Democratic Front party leaders on Tuesday staged a protest against Chief Minister Oommen Chandy inside the Kerala Assembly for his alleged involvement in the solar scam issue. Protesting LDF leaders raised slogans and banners inside the House against the Chandy Government, demanding Chandy’s resignation. CM Oommen Chandy is allegedly accused of accepting a bribe of 1.9 crores to approve the solar projects.
Trivandrum, Jan 25 (ANI): Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Monday appeared before a judicial commission probing the 7-crore solar scam that has engulfed his Congress-led UDF government, over his alleged links to the accused in the massive cheating scandal. The scam relates to an alleged con job by a pair of entrepreneurs Saritha Nair and Biju Radhakrishnan, who promised to install solar power panels. The Chief Minister, a witness in the case, had already given a written statement to the commission and agreed to appear before it personally, when asked to do so. The commission, that has its office in Kochi, will come to Thiruvananthapuram and record Chandy's statement. Chandy has maintained all along that he has done no wrong and is prepared to face any probe.
Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 15 (ANI): Kerala felicitated Pakistan's legendary maestro Ghulam Ali, two days after he performed in Kolkata. Ali was presented with an award by a socio-cultural organisation and Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and other leaders were also present. Ali will be performing in Thiruvananthapuram city on Friday and in Kozhikode on January 17. He expressed happiness on performing in Kerala during his maiden visit to the state. Indian classical singer, Pandit Vishwanath, will also perform with Ali on Friday. He was all praise for the Pakistani singer, calling him the king of ghazals. Ali, the 75-year old renowned singer, performed with his son Amir Ali in Kolkata on January 12 and was felicitated by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Trivandrum, Jan 13 (ANI): Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Wednesday opposed the Italian Senate's defence committee on its comment that Italian marine Massimiliano Latorre will not return to India. Chandy said that the Italian marines committed a crime on Indian land and they are liable to obey the Indian law. He added that today itself, the Kerala government will urge Prime Minister Narendra Modi to bring back the marine to India.
