No revenue policing,cops to man hills

In the wake of the disaster,Uttarakhand has decided to phase out revenue policing,a system put in place by the British Raj which is believed to be largely responsible for the absence of proper communication in the states hills.

We have decided to phase out revenue policing. A proposal to this effect would be brought before the state cabinet, chief minister Vijay Bahuguna said Wednesday. The hill region will now get regular police and police stations .

Revenue policing,its critics believe,has deprived the state of adequate funds under the Centres police modernisation scheme as the MHA does not recognise revenue police as a part of state police.
