Keeping in mind the dearth of theatre training institutes in the city,the University of Mumbai is now going to offer a two-year full-time post graduate degree course from the Academy of Theatre Arts for the first time.
The admission procedure for 2013-14 has started and graduates from any discipline can apply for the Master of Theatre Arts course. The last date for the submission of forms is July 8 and entrance exams will be conducted from June 12 to 14. In fact,admissions will be done on the basis of performance test,written test,workshops and auditions.
The syllabus which attaches a 40:60 ratio importance to theory and practicals will cover acting,theatre direction,theatre techniques,dramatic literature,theatre history,production,play writing,play criticism,theatre management and art administration,among others.
Each years batch will not have more than 25 students. Filmmakers such as Jabbar Patel and Bhalchandra Pendharkar; the former director of National School of Drama in Delhi,Devendra Raj Ankur; and actor Govind Namdev have been invited as guests of the academy.
