Gunman killed near Saudi ministers palace

JEDDAH: Saudi security forces killed a gunman early on Saturday after he fired at a checkpoint near the Interior Ministers palace in Jeddah,the state news agency said. Police said they were unable to confirm whether the incident was militant-related. At 1 am on Saturday,a person carrying a gun fired at a checkpoint in Abdulrahman Al-Malki Street in Jeddah. He was dealt with swiftly and was killed. The event is still under investigation,the SPA statement said.

Bhattarai projected as next Nepal PM

Kathmandu: The secretary of Nepals largest party,UCPN-Maoist,C P Gajurel on Saturday claimed the right of the former rebels to lead a new national unity government in Nepal,projecting the partys vice-chairman Baburam Bhattarai as the next Prime Minister. Gajurels comments came amid mounting pressure on embattled PM Jhalanath Khanal to quit for the failure to push the peace process forward. Gajurel ruled out the possibility of regrouping of the Maoist combatants by next weeks deadline.

US law enforcement sites hacked

London: The group known as Anonymous said on Saturday that it has hacked into some 70 mostly rural law enforcement websites in the US,a breach that one local police chief said had leaked information about an ongoing probe. The international hacking collective posted a cache of data to the web early on Saturday,including emails stolen from officers,tips which appeared to come from members of the public,credit card numbers and other sensitive information.

Libyan rebels say advancing on Brega

BENGHAZI: Libyan rebels said Saturday they had launched a push to capture the coastal oil town of Brega,but were advancing slowly because Muammar Gaddafis forces had sown minefields across its approaches. Theres a big movement on all fronts around Brega. We are attacking from three sides, said a rebel spokesman.
