Ex-MP Rana convicted in fodder scam case

The special CBI court on Friday convicted former Member of Parliament and RJD leader R K Rana and nine others in the 42nd case relating to the fodder scam

The special CBI court on Friday convicted former Member of Parliament and RJD leader R K Rana and nine others in the 42nd case relating to the fodder scam.

Rana and his co-accused have been convicted of a case relating to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 37 lakh from the Godda treasury in 1995-96. Among the nine co-accused is former BJP MLA Dhruv Bhagat. The court will pronounce its sentence on Monday,drawing to a close the 42nd of the 53 cases that made up the fodder scam. The cases were registered as far back as 1996.

Rana was convicted in a different fodder scam-related case in August 2009,making him among the first politicians to be sentenced in the case. He was given five years rigorous imprisonment for withdrawing Rs 28 lakh fraudulently from the Godda treasury in 1992.
