Chavan dials Sheila,offers help

I spoke to Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit about onion price hike. A team of officials visited Maharashtra to look at the possibility of directly purchasing onion from the markets here. Onion is available at Rs 38-40 kg in Maharashtra markets and sufficient quantity is available at Nashik,Pune and Rahuri, Chavan said.

Chavan clarified that there was no hoarding of onions in the sate. Production is less but this will change by next week, he said.

Delhis Food and Civil Supplies Minister Haroon Yusuf said: Food and Civil Supplies Secretary S S Yadav and Vice Chairman of Agriculture Marketing Board Ramesh Tiwari are in Lasalgaon to procure onion.

He said the government has also decided to procure onion from Alwar in Rajasthan.
