Denied poll ticket,SP MLA joins BSP

LUCKNOW: After being denied a ticket to contest the assembly election,Sandhya Katheria,Samajwadi Party MLA from Kishni constituency in Mainpuri district,joined the ruling BSP on Thursday. The SP had dropped Sandhyas name from its list of candidates a month ago,and selected Brijesh Katheria in her place. Sandhya said she had decided to join the BSP because it is only CM Mayawati who fights for the cause of Dalits,backwards and downtrodden.

Mentally challenged man killed by family

BULANDSHAHR: In a gruesome incident in Utravali village,a man along with his four sons allegedly locked his mentally challenged son in a room,and set it on fire on Wednesday night,leading to the death of the youth. On hearing the shrieks of Ompal,the 28-year-old son of sweets merchant Kotpal,the villagers rushed to the scene and called the police. However,Ompal died of asphyxiation. Kotpal along with one of his sons is absconding while his other sons have been arrested,SSP R K S Rathore said. The villagers said Ompals family wanted to get rid of him.

Case against editor of Assamese channel

GUWAHATI: A case has been registered against the editor-in-chief of a local private news channel for his alleged derogatory remarks about the Tai Ahom community in Assam on Facebook,a charge denied by him. The accused,News Lives editor-in-chief Atanu Bhuyan,denied making the remarks,and claimed that a fake Facebook account was created in his name,regarding which a case had been registered with the cyber crime STF. A notice has been served on the social networking sites security department in the US under CrPC sections,for furnishing details about the alleged account.

Vastanvi: Darul Uloom moves caveat in SC

NEW DELHI: Darul Uloom Deoband on Thursday moved a caveat in the Supreme Court seeking an opportunity to be heard in case the sacking of Maulana Ghulam Mohammad Vastanvi by the governing body comes under challenge in the court. Vastanvi,the former Vice- Chancellor,was sacked last month following controversy over his remarks praising Gujarat CM Narendra Modis rule and his development policy. He had reportedly said that Muslims should forget the riots of 2002 and move on and that the community did not face discrimination in Gujarat.
