UPA-II report card by PM today

New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will on Tuesday present to the people a 8216;report card8217; on the performance of his government in the first year of its second tenure. The 8216;Report to the People8217; was originally scheduled to be unveiled at a function on May 22,exactly a year after the United Progressive Alliance-II returned to power. However,the function was cancelled in view of the Air India Express plane crash in Mangalore. The report card will list achievements of various ministries and departments. The document is likely to chronicle among other things the Women8217;s Reservation Bill which has been passed in the Rajya Sabha.

Sacking of AI staff: AITUC meets PM

NEW DELHI: With the Air India management sacking union leaders and derecognising trade unions after the flash strike,CPIs labour outfit AITUC on Monday met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to seek his intervention in the matter. AITUC general secretary and Lok Sabha MP Gurudas Dasgupta told the PM that it is totally illegal to retrench employees,derecognise unions and seal their offices when the reconciliation process was on. The Air India management8217;s behaviour is totally unacceptable, he said.

Lt Gen Kakria is new DGMS

New Delhi: Lt Gen H L Kakria on Monday took over as the new Director General of Medical Services Army. The officer,an orthopaedics specialist,has served as the commandant of Army Medical Corps Centre and College in Lucknow. Kakria has been an undergraduate and Post-Graduate Teacher and Examiner of MS Orthopaedics,Pune University and DNB Orthopaedics National Board of Examination,New Delhi. He was conferred with the Major General Amir Chand award in 1990,for the research work done in Orthopaedics on knee joint injuries.

RS polls: PMK to meet Karunanidhi

Chennai: A day after the DMK decided to renew alliance with former ally PMK but without offering a Rajya Sabha seat for its leader and former Union Minister Anbumani Ramadoss,the PMK leadership that met on Monday decided to call on Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Tuesday before the decision on alliance was finalised. PMK founder S Ramadoss had written two letters to the DMK president recalling the ties they once shared to seek support for Anbumani8217;s candidature to the RS.

Sahai takes over as Rly board chairman

NEW DELHI: Vivek Sahai on Monday took over as the new Chairman,Railway Board and ex-officio Principal Secretary to the Ministry of Railways. He replaced S S Khurana who superannuated from the post. Sahai,an IRTS Officer of 1973 batch,has held several key posts in Indian Railways,including that of General Manager,Northern Railway,General Manager North Central Railway,Additional Member Traffic,Railway Board,to name a few.
