JAIPUR: Seven Armymen landed in jail after they beat up a cop,whom they mistook for the driver of a car which had hit a motorcycle in Rajasthans Bharatpur district. The Armymen saw a car speeding away after hitting a motorcycle and injuring its two riders. Deciding to teach the driver a lesson they chased it,unaware that soon after the accident it had been caught by police and a constable in plainclothes was driving it to the police station. At the Halena Police Station,as soon as the constable wearing a black jacket alighted from the car,they pounced on him,SHO Rajendra Sharma said.

Burglary at Raje advisors house

JAIPUR: Burglars broke into former Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Rajes media advisor Mahendra Bharadwajs house Saturday night and decamped with Rs one lakh cash and Rs one lakh worth of jewellery,police said. Bharadwaj and his family were in Tonk district to attend a wedding when the burglary took place.

541 voters choose no vote in Rajasthan

JAIPUR: As many as 541 voters exercised their right to No vote during the Panchayati Raj election held recently in Rajasthan,an EC official said on Sunday. They registered their presence at polling booths but did not find any suitable candidate and so returned without casting vote, the official said.

HP to install fire alarms in forests

SHIMLA: Himachal Pradesh will install a fire alarm system in its forests to limit the damage to forests due to fires. A similar system is in place in MP. The system works on the pattern of GPS through remote sensing and would provide fire alert message quickly,Additional Chief Secretary,Forest,Avay Shukla said. HP has nearly 55,673 sq km of forest cover,which is 24 per cent of the states total geographical area . He said fires damage around 10,000 hectare of forests every year.

Gehlot seeks CISF security for dargah

NEW DELHI: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot Sunday asked the Centre to deploy CISF for the security of Ajmer Sharif Dargah. The state has deployed its own force at the dargah . However,in view of the large number of pilgrims of all communities and the terror attack on the dargah in 2007,entrusting its security to a specialised agency like the CISF needs to be considered. A proposal in this regard has been sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Gehlot said at Conference of Chief Ministers on Internal Security in New Delhi. PTI
