Ikkis Movie Review, Rating and Release Live Updates: Agastya Nanda’s film Ikkis hits theatres on January 1 amid the ongoing Dhurandhar storm at the box office. The film marks the acting debut of Akshay Kumar’s niece Simar Bhatia and is also the posthumous release of late legendary actor Dharmendra. The film is directed by Sriram Raghavan, who is known for helming critically acclaimed projects such as Andhadhun, Ek Hasina Thi, Merry Christmas and several others. This is also the silver screen debut of Agastya, who has previously appeared in Zoya Akhtar’s The Archies on Netflix.

Ikkis was originally scheduled to release on December 25. But the makers decided to postpone the release by a week. Amitabh Bachchan, who is the grandfather of Agastya, said that the date was changed due to astrological reasons. Despite the delay, the Dhurandhar craze has refused to ebb, and Ikkis’ early box office collections could suffer because of it. Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday’s film, Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri, tanked within a week of its release, after hitting the screens on December 25.

Ikkis revolves around the life of 2nd Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, the youngest Param Vir Chakra recipient. Ahead of the film’s release, the makers held a special screening for Mukesh Khetarpal, the younger brother of Arun Khetarpal, along with several industry personalities. After the screening, Mukesh admitted that Agastya’s performance as Arun made him emotional and brought him to tears. He said, “My grouse is you made me cry. You made me relive… Certain things were in my mind, and moment by moment, when I saw it on screen, I got so emotional I couldn’t stop crying.”

Meanwhile, Sunny Deol shared an emotional message on Instagram, remembering his father Dharmendra and his final performance in Ikkis. He wrote, “Our Papa, the man of the soil, Ikkis is his salute – his gift to the earth he loved and to the fans who always stood by him. For our family, it is a treasure filled with his spirit, courage, and his heart. Today, with love and immense pride, we share it with the world, hoping it lives on the way he does – forever.❤️♾️”

Ikkis Movie review LIVE Updates: 'First half feels random, with the film’s intent poorly conveyed'

X page @reviewjunkie12 shared Ikkis Review that read, "EMOTIONAL BUT AVERAGE If only dir had handled the entire film the way he handled last 30 mins, #ikkis would have been exceptional. First half feels random, with the film’s intent poorly conveyed. Weak casting of some side characters hurts the strong performances of #dharmendra, #jaideepahlawat and #agastyananda. Dharmendra was so natural in his character that, had the director shown even a moment of his teary eyes in the climax, the entire nation would’ve cried with him. Same holds true for #jaideepahlawat.

kkis Movie review LIVE Updates: 'Dharmendra is outstanding in his final film'

"Ikkis' background score is superb, and the use of retro songs feels refreshing. The dialogues are heartfelt and perfectly packed with emotion. This is a very different #sriramraghavan film, where the focus is more on emotions than on the thriller quotient. Only he could make Ikkis look so rich and transport the audience back in time. His portrayal of war is elegant and will remind you of Commando comics. Talking about performances, #dharmendra is outstanding in what appears to be his final film. He has a full-fledged role and shines through his dialogues and emotional expressions. The way he hugs Deepak Dobriyal and Jaideep in the end is deeply moving. He beautifully portrays the pain of an ageing father while also displaying the strength of an ex-military officer. #agastyananda looks impressive and often reminds you of a young #abhishekbachchan. He fits effortlessly into the role of a young army officer and does complete justice to it. His power-packed energy and expressive eyes in several scenes are surprising. He even brings to mind young Hollywood heroes, definitely a talent to watch out for. #simarbhatia looks charming and performs her role with warmth. #jaideepahlawat has a strong emotional part and shines in all his scenes with Dharmendra. #vivaanshah, #sikandarkher (wanted more of him), #rahuldev, and #deepakdobriyal are effective in their respective roles, while Mamik and #asrani are decent in their cameo appearances. Overall, Ikkis is an emotionally enriching ode to real and reel-life heroes (Param Vir Chakra awardee Arun Khetarpal and our beloved Dharmendra). It is a well-made, content-driven film with powerful performances and heartfelt moments. The runtime could have been crisper, which makes it a 3.5-star film out of 5. However, being a die-hard Dharmendra fan and as a tribute to one of the finest actors of our industry, I am adding an extra star, making my final rating 4.5 out of 5. Go and watch it on the big screen!," posted a fan on X.

Ikkis Movie review LIVE Updates: 'Focus strongly remains on the emotional and human side of war'

X user @DIVYASOLGAMA posted Ikkis Movie Review that read, "'An emotionally enriching ode to real and reel-life heroes..'There have been several war-based films in Hindi cinema, but while most of them narrate events from the enemy front, very few movies like Vijeta or Haqeeqat attempt to capture the emotional journey and personal life of a soldier. Ikkis is one such rare war film where the focus strongly remains on the emotional and human side of war.The film is based on the true-life story of Param Vir Chakra awardee #arunkhetarpal, a hero of the Indo–Pakistani War of 1971. The makers have presented the narrative in three layers - one set at the war front featuring young Agastya Nanda, another set 30 years later featuring Dharmendra and Jaideep Ahlawat, and in between, glimpses of Agastya’s romantic and training phase alongside Simar Bhatia. The first half starts with warm and emotional moments featuring Dharmendra, followed by him showing his son’s photograph to Jaideep’s family. Agastya’s introduction, his excitement on seeing his tank for the first time, his NDA training and competition sequences, Dharmendra’s Punjabi poem, war portions, and the hardships leading up to the final confrontation between Agastya and Jaideep are all superb. Dharmendra’s emotional depth in the climax is particularly moving. These scenes form the highlights of the film and are presented in a very classy manner. On the flip side, the non-linear narrative occasionally dilutes the impact of some powerful emotional and war sequences. The romantic track needed stronger narration, as it feels slightly forced into the screenplay. The second half also required tighter editing, as it dwells more on the emotional and human aspects."

Ikkis Movie X Review LIVE Updates: 'Sriram Raghavan sir makes a war film, that’s so heartwarming'

X user @HimeshMankad posted, "There couldn’t have been a better farewell film than #ikkis for #dharmendra ji. From frame one, till the last one - it’s an absolute delight to watch the legend perform for one last time. #sriramraghavan sir makes a war film, that’s so heartwarming and loading with tender moments in the midst of all the action & drama - it’s unlike anything seen before in the genre. #agastyananda is convincing as #arunkhetrepal, marking his debut on the big screen, whereas #simarbhatia boasts of confidence in every single frame of the film. The two should be exciting talents to watch out for in the long run. #jaideepahlawat is simply fantastic and brings in so much warmth to the tale. It’s difficult to not shed a tear while watching the film - Go for it guys. Kudos to #dineshvijan and team for backing this, and bringing it to the spectacle. Thank you #sriram sir for presenting #dharam ji with all the glory. This one will always be a special!"

Ikkis Movie review LIVE Updates: Our verdict

Indian Express' film critic Shubhra Gupta gave the film Ikkis 3 stars and wrote in her Ikkis review, "Agastya Nanda-Dharmendra film is a solid start to 2026, a war film that’s deeply anti-war. The film makes you feel in a way that movies these days are not either able to or want to. It eschews gratuitous violence and jingoism as it explores the harrowing fallout of conflict. You may be reminded of a few great American war films — Oliver Stone’s trilogy, Steven Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan — in Sriram Raghavan’s determined anti-war strain, which runs right through the 142-minute narrative."

Ikkis Movie X Review LIVE Updates: 'Certain elevation moments bring in goose bumps'

Trade analyst Joginder Tuteja shared IKKIS REVIEW via X, "Movie review - Ikkis - STUNS YOU, NUMBS YOU, THRILLS YOU, AND FILLS YOUR HEART WITH PRIDE The trailer had set the tone for the film and what works most is the fact that it’s a truly big screen experience. To mount a newcomer film at this scale needs conviction and that’s commendable in this #agastyananda - #sriramraghavan - #dineshvijan epic war drama. Moreover, there is a strong human drama that works here. The conversations between #dharam ji and #jaideepahlawat take the film to a high; it’s a unique angle in the story. While it’s good to see the two actors here, #agastyananda has this good mix of vulnerability and maturity that plays well. He is in here for a long innings. #simarbhatia makes a good debut while #rahuldev and #sikandarkher are reliable as ever. #vivaanshah plays his part well. Technically, the film is top notch. The action sequences are mounted at a grand scale. The BGM is very effective. Cinematography is apt for the film belonging to the war genre. Certain elevation moments bring in goose bumps. #ikkis is a good film to kickstart the New Year and deserves to be given a watch at the big screen. Rating: 4."

Ikkis Movie Early Review LIVE Updates: 'Agastya Nanda delivers a confident, controlled, and credible performance'

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh added in his Ikkis Movie review, "#dharmendra, in his final film appearance, is simply brilliant... Present from start to finish, the veteran anchors the film with towering screen presence and restrained emotion, adding gravitas and soul to the narrative. #jaideepahlawat once again proves why he is among the finest actors of our times – terrific in every frame... His sequences with #dharmendra are among the film's biggest highlights, crackling with intensity and emotional depth. #agastyananda looks the part and delivers a confident, controlled, and credible performance, portraying courage and vulnerability with sincerity. #simarbhatia performs confidently, though her character lacks depth... #sikandarkher is impactful and shines in his role... #rahuldev is wonderful in a significant part... #vivaanshah is natural and important to the narrative, while #deepakdobriyal is solid in his sequence with #dharmendra. #ikkis has a few rough edges, but they don't dilute its overall impact... The romantic track acts as a speed breaker, disrupting the otherwise taut narrative... The songs leave a limited impression, though the background score effectively elevates key moments. Final word? An emotional, gripping, and powerful tribute to a real-life hero... A word-of-mouth film from the boxoffice perspective."

Emotional and deeply moving... #dharmendra is memorable, #jaideepahlawat outstanding, and #agastyananda supremely confident. #ikkisreview National Award-winning director #sriramraghavan delivers an emotionally charged war drama, which is based on the powerful true story of Second Lieutenant #arunkhetarpal #pvc. The screenplay packs an emotional punch, especially in the second half, where the narrative turns intense and immersive... Raghavan smartly builds the drama layer by layer, culminating in a penultimate battle sequence that is nothing short of captivating – easily one of the film's biggest strengths. In fact, the final half-hour – building towards a deeply emotional finale – stands out as the film's most compelling segment."
