Panaji: Two young Russian women have alleged that a taxi driver attempted to rape them at Anjuna beach here while they were returning from a Christmas eve party in the early hours of Friday. Both the girls,in their complaint lodged at the Anjuna police station,said they had to jump out of the taxi to escape from the driver and hid in the woods for almost five hours waiting for dawn.

Blast at Baglihar plant,9 injured

JAMMU: A detonator exploded accidentally at Baglihar Hydroelectricity Project at Chanderkote in Ramban district in J&K on Thursday night and injured nine labourers,police said on Friday. The injured were admitted to hospitals in Jammu and Udhampur. Police said they have registered a case.

SURAT: A 15-year old girl,who had set herself ablaze after claiming she was gangraped,died of her injuries at the New Civil hospital on Friday morning. Police are clueless on why the girl killed herself as medical examination had negated rape. The two accused Ranjeet Choudhary and Ravindra Vasawa who are in custody have denied involvement.

Freedom fighter perks: UP fixes minimum age

LUCKNOW: UP has fixed minimum age for freedom fighters to be eligible for pension. Any person applying for the pension should had been at least 15 years old at the time of participating in the freedom struggle, UP Principal Secretary (Home) said. He said applicants would be asked to present age proof.

Agartala: Tripura Governor D Y Patil will draw Re 1 as his monthly salary instead of Rs 110,000,sources in the Raj Bhavan said Friday. Governors are entitled to a monthly salary of Rs 110,000 per month. Patil,74,was sworn in as the 12th Governor of Tripura on November 27.

Arthur Road Jail inmate hangs self

MUMBAI: Manoj Bhansode,37,lodged in Arthur Road Jail in connection with a theft case,has allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself,police said Friday. Five other inmates who were sharing the lock-up with him were sleeping when the incident occurred, said Vasant Tajne,senior inspector of N M Joshi police station.
